ZEDCON 2026 SPOTLIGHTS SMART INFRASTRUCTURE

Zimbabwe’s economic future takes centre stage this week as the ZEDCON 2026 conference gets under way at the Zimbabwe International Conference and Exhibition Smart City (ZICES), running from 30 September to 2 October 2026.

Hosted by the ZITF Company as hosting partner, the three-day event brings together key economic minds, policymakers and industry leaders under the theme “Smart Infrastructure for an Upper Middle-Income Society.” The theme speaks directly to the country’s national development ambition, which seeks to transform Zimbabwe into an upper middle-income economy by 2030.

Organisers describe ZEDCON 2026 as a platform where the country’s economic direction is debated, refined and translated into action. Delegates are expected to explore how modern, intelligent and resilient infrastructure can underpin growth, attract investment and improve the quality of life for citizens.

Smart infrastructure has become a defining feature of global development thinking. From digitally managed transport networks and energy systems to connected urban services and data-driven planning, technology is increasingly seen as a multiplier of economic productivity. For Zimbabwe, where infrastructure needs span roads, rail, energy, water, housing and communications, the conversation carries particular weight.

The choice of ZICES as the venue reinforces the message. The facility is positioned as a modern conference and exhibition hub, offering a fitting backdrop for discussions on innovation, urban planning and next-generation development. Its role as host demonstrates the country’s growing capacity to stage large-scale business gatherings of international standing.

Participation by policymakers alongside private sector leaders is expected to encourage practical dialogue on the partnerships needed to finance and deliver major projects. With Government promoting infrastructure-led growth, and private capital increasingly sought for roads, energy, housing and rail, forums of this kind offer a valuable meeting point between public priorities and investor interest.

Industry observers say platforms like ZEDCON can help align stakeholders around shared goals, clarify policy direction and spotlight opportunities across the economy. For businesses in construction, engineering, technology, finance and property, the gathering offers a chance to network, exchange ideas and position themselves within the country’s growth agenda.

The ZITF Company said it was honoured to be hosting partner for a platform where Zimbabwe’s economic future is shaped. As delegates converge on ZICES, expectations are high that the conversations held over the three days will help turn the vision of an upper middle-income society into concrete, measurable progress.
