Thaton Property has announced that piling works have officially commenced at The Connaught Luxury Residence, with the first concrete now poured on site, marking a significant construction milestone for one of Harare’s largest current residential developments.
The Connaught is being built at the corner of Connaught Road and King George Road in Avondale, Harare, on a site the developer describes as a mixed-use tower combining residential apartments with retail and lifestyle amenities. According to Thaton Property, the development is designed around what it calls an “Urban Plus” concept, bringing together living space, workspace and leisure facilities within a single building. Planned amenities include a resort-style swimming pool, a residents’ clubhouse, multiple braai areas, a gym, a spa, retail space, serviced offices and an on-site day-care facility, alongside semi-basement parking.
Units on offer range from studio apartments through to three-bedroom penthouses, with listed prices starting from around US$89,000 excluding VAT for smaller units and rising to upwards of US$265,000 for larger configurations. The developer has also advertised financing terms of 15 percent per annum through to 2030 for buyers purchasing on payment plans.
The Connaught is being developed by Thaton Property, a Harare-based property development and investment company led by Executive Chairman Ben Nyaumwe. Thaton Property describes itself as handling all stages of a project, from concept and design through to engineering, financing and operation. The company has also worked in South Africa under the name Auspex Property, where it developed a portfolio valued at around ZAR 1 billion at peak valuation. In Zimbabwe, Thaton says its current pipeline of projects is valued at approximately US$20 million.
The Connaught was formally unveiled at a launch event earlier this year that drew business leaders, investors and members of Harare’s creative sector. Speakers at the launch included Kamil Abdul-Karrim, Managing Director at Pam Golding Tourism and Hospitality Consulting South Africa, who spoke about rising demand across Africa for integrated, lifestyle-driven developments. The event was also attended by Supa Mandiwanzira, Member of Parliament and Secretary for Local Government and Housing, who spoke in support of private sector-led developments of this kind.
With piling now under way, construction on The Connaught moves into its next visible phase, following weeks of excavation work on site. Thaton Property has indicated that regular updates will be shared as the project progresses, with the company positioning the development as a new standard for apartment living in Harare, drawing comparisons to established lifestyle-apartment markets such as Dubai and Cape Town. Units are reportedly being sold in order of reservation, with the developer citing strong early interest from both prospective homeowners and investors.
