NEW LEADERSHIP FOR ARCHITECTS INAUGURATED

The architectural profession in Zimbabwe has entered a definitive new era with the official introduction of the 2026 leadership boards for both the Institute of Architects of Zimbabwe (IAZ) and the Architects Council of Zimbabwe (ACZ). This newly elected cohort represents a diverse blend of seasoned veterans and innovative visionaries, all unified by a shared commitment to strengthening professional standards, advancing the built environment, and serving the Zimbabwean public with unwavering integrity.

At the forefront of the Architects Council of Zimbabwe, Arch. Brighton Madondo of Studio 5 Architects takes the mantle as ACZ Chairman. He is supported by Arch. Bokani Munodawafa of Stone/Beattie/Munodawafa Architectural Studio, who serves as Vice Chairman. Together with Registrar Arch. Hazvinei Sakupwanya of Saku Design Studio, this executive team is tasked with the critical oversight of professional registration and the maintenance of the highest ethical and technical benchmarks across the industry.

Simultaneously, the Institute of Architects of Zimbabwe has seated a robust executive committee to lead its advocacy and professional development initiatives. Arch. Ishumael Gura of Gura & Associates has been elected as the IAZ President, joined by Vice President Arch. Shingirai Dzimwasha of J. Dzimwasha Architect. Their leadership is expected to focus on the evolution of architectural practice in a rapidly changing economic climate, ensuring that Zimbabwean architects remain competitive and socially relevant.

The collective board is further bolstered by a distinguished group of members including Arch. Phillip Mukura, Arch. Emiel Murwira of Designpro Architect, Arch. Tapiwa Manditsera of Studio 5 Architects, Arch. Tatenda Tinarwo of Defty Dots, and Arch. Kudakwashe Chibika of Chibika Architect. Adding a vital dimension of governance and statutory compliance to the group is Ms. Soneni Hlatshwayo, who serves as the Legal Advisor.

As these professionals take their seats, the industry looks forward to a period of renewed vigour. The 2026 boards are expected to tackle pressing issues such as urban sustainability, the integration of modern technology in design, and the protection of the “Architect” title through rigorous enforcement of council regulations. This transition marks more than just a change in personnel; it is a reaffirmation of the profession’s dedication to building a safer, more aesthetic, and structurally sound Zimbabwe. We extend our warmest congratulations to the newly elected members as they begin their journey of stewardship and excellence.
