NEW CLINIC UNDER CONSTRUCTION IN ZVIMBA TO HONOUR FORMER PRESIDENT ROBERT MUGABE

A modern primary healthcare facility is taking shape in Zvimba, Mashonaland West province, the rural home of the late former President, Cde Robert Mugabe, in a move aimed at honouring his contribution to Zimbabwe’s liberation struggle and post-independence development.

The 16-room Robert Mugabe Clinic, now more than 30 percent complete, is being constructed by philanthropist and businessman Cde Jimayi Muduvuri, a member of the ZANU PF National Consultative Assembly.

Once complete, the clinic is expected to offer outpatient services, maternal and child healthcare, consultation rooms, a dispensary and administrative offices.

Cde Muduvuri said naming the clinic after Cde Mugabe was a deliberate decision to honour a leader he described as an icon and Pan-Africanist whose sacrifices for Zimbabwe’s independence should be commemorated in tangible ways.

“Cde Mugabe dedicated his life to the liberation and development of Zimbabwe,” he said.

“Establishing this clinic in his home area is one way of honouring his immense contribution.

“This facility, which is among several that I am introducing across the country, will offer free medical services to war veterans, people living with disabilities and vulnerable members of society. However, it will also be open to the general public.”

Zvimba Rural District Council chief executive officer Mr Enias Chidakwa said the clinic was being built at a time when the local authority was dedicating finances and resources towards the construction of more healthcare centres.
