Located just a stone’s throw away from the bustling capital of Harare, the Manyame Rural District Council is preparing to redefine the landscape of peri-urban living through a series of high-impact joint venture projects.
The council has announced that it will soon be calling for strategic investment partners to collaborate on four landmark developments: a luxury residential flat complex, a state-of-the-art private cemetery, a world-class hotel, and a comprehensive sports and recreation facility. These projects represent a significant shift in the council’s development strategy, moving away from traditional land sales toward sustainable, modern infrastructure that caters to a growing, sophisticated demographic.
The momentum behind these projects is already at an advanced stage. Proposals for all four developments have been formally submitted to the Zimbabwe Investment Development Authority (ZIDA). This critical step ensures that each project undergoes a rigorous assessment for technical feasibility, financial viability, and environmental soundness.
By partnering with ZIDA, Manyame RDC is signalling to the investor community that its projects are de-risked and aligned with national standards for sustainable development. Once these assessments are finalized, the council will be positioned to formalize agreements that will transform the district into a self-sustaining economic hub.
Strategic location is perhaps Manyame’s greatest asset. Situated approximately 55 kilometres from Harare along the newly rehabilitated Masvingo–Beitbridge Road—widely considered the country’s best highway—the district sits at the heart of a vital trade and transit corridor. This accessibility has triggered a massive population movement from the capital.
Tired of the congestion of Harare, thousands of residents are seeking a “quieter life” in the modern suburbs sprouting within Manyame’s jurisdiction. The proposed residential flats are designed specifically to meet this rising housing demand, offering modern, high-density living solutions that do not compromise on lifestyle or luxury.
The council is putting substantial skin in the game to attract top-tier partners, particularly for the tourism and hospitality sector. A prime 2.8-hectare plot of land has been earmarked for the state-of-the-art hotel, which aims to serve both the transit market and the growing local business community.
Complemented by the sports and recreation facility and the private cemetery, these developments are intended to create a holistic ecosystem where residents can live, work, and play. As the final approvals from ZIDA approach, Manyame RDC stands on the verge of an industrial and residential revolution, proving that the future of Harare’s expansion lies firmly in the south.
