The Institute for Law, Development and Democracy Trust (ILDD) has opened applications for a new Professional Certificate in Construction Law, a programme designed to strengthen the legal capacity and competence of executives and professionals working across Zimbabwe’s construction sector.
According to details shared by the institute, the programme has been recognised and accredited by the Zimbabwe Building Contractors Association (ZBCA), positioning it as a formally endorsed qualification within the country’s construction industry. ILDD said the certificate programme aims to equip participants with practical legal knowledge relevant to the everyday realities of construction work, from contract management to dispute resolution.
The course is scheduled to run from August 2026, with classes held on Saturdays and through mid-week virtual sessions, offering a hybrid delivery format that combines in-person and online learning. Physical sessions will take place at Alex Park in Harare, running between 0900hrs and 1300hrs, while the delivery mode overall will include lectures, seminars, simulations, group presentations, guest lectures, and project work, reflecting a practically oriented approach to legal training rather than a purely theoretical one.
Key modules within the programme include the fundamentals of construction law, construction contracts including FIDIC-based agreements, contractual remedies, regulatory and statutory compliance management, litigating construction contracts, arbitration and mediation in construction, and state and government contracts. This curriculum suggests a comprehensive attempt to cover both the commercial and dispute-related dimensions of construction law, areas that have grown increasingly important as Zimbabwe’s construction sector continues to expand.
ILDD indicated that the programme is suitable for a wide range of professionals, including contractors, engineers, and architects, legal practitioners and legal officers working within local authorities and private companies, senior executives and officers in construction, state attorneys and legal counsels, compliance and governance officers, and members of building contractors associations.
The fees for the programme have been set, with a 20 percent discount available for members of the Zimbabwe Building Contractors Association, incentivising participation from those already engaged with the industry body.
Applications for the programme must be submitted on or before 10 August 2026, with ILDD noting that applicants who are enrolled will be required to pay the full fees upon enrolment.
