The former Warren Hills Golf Club is steadily being transformed into The Hills, a premier golfing residential estate developed by WestProp Holdings, with its new practice driving range now open to the public, according to an account shared by Ben Manyenyeni on Facebook.
Manyenyeni, a Zimbabwean business executive and former Mayor of Harare, who served in that office from 2013 to 2018, visited the site to sample the newly opened facility and described the development as shaping up nicely and full of promise. Beyond his time in local government, Manyenyeni has built a career spanning more than two decades in financial services, largely in the management of group pension funds, and remains a recognisable figure in Harare’s civic and business circles.
Situated at the corner of Princes Road and Sherwood Drive in Harare’s New North, The Hills Lifestyle Estate has been positioned by its developer as where luxury, lifestyle and leisure converge, built around Zimbabwe’s first USGA-length golf course.
According to Manyenyeni’s account, two South African golf course management consultants were on site assisting in shaping the new club and course. He also noted that access to the estate is now routed off Sherwood Drive, a deliberate shift away from the bustle associated with nearby Dzivarasekwa, which he described as a smart move for the development.
The golf course itself has been designed by renowned course architect Peter Matkovich, with construction currently under way as part of a broader estate said to be valued at roughly two hundred and eighty million United States dollars. Once complete, the course is expected to serve as a venue for both recreational play and championship-standard tournaments, reflecting Harare residents’ growing enthusiasm for the sport.
The Hills forms part of WestProp’s wider portfolio of live, work, shop and play developments in Harare, alongside projects such as Pomona City, Pokugara and Millennium Heights. Beyond the golf course, the estate’s master plan reportedly includes a five-star hotel and branded residences, several hundred wellness homes and exclusive apartments, retirement and assisted living units, and a mixed-use precinct combining commercial, dining and sporting facilities.
On the driving range itself, Manyenyeni offered a candid assessment, noting that it is likely the most expensive practice facility in the city. He recounted paying twenty United States dollars for what proved to be a bottomless bucket of balls, with no apparent limit on the number he could hit, though he acknowledged this may simply have been the result of visiting on a quiet day.
For golf enthusiasts and prospective residents alike, Manyenyeni’s first-hand account offers an early glimpse of a facility its developers hope will deliver, in his words, a truly world-class golf theatre when the wider project comes to life.
