Choose Jekesa to Light up your world

โ€œJekesaโ€ is a Shona word that roughly translates as to โ€œilluminateโ€ or โ€œlight it upโ€ – a simple and appropriate name for a company specialising in lighting and electrical solutions. The company was founded in February 2018 by Mrs Linience Tsitsi Charuma after years of studying in the fields of Electrical Engineering and Business Management โ€“ and succeeding in a largely male-dominated industry. Linience describes herself as the founder, CEO and โ€˜dreamer of possibilitiesโ€™ for women in business. The business started off modestly at her home in Eastlea and grew rapidly, leading Jekesa to establish new dedicated premises in Msasa in August 2020 โ€“ so theyโ€™re still somewhat of โ€œthe new kids on the blockโ€, rivalling other more established, male dominated businesses.

Jekesa has quickly become known as leading agents for well-known brands like Bright Star lighting, Eurolux, Radiant Lighting, ACDC and other wellknown suppliers, including both fittings and related accessories. Their showroom at Unit 4, 1 Harrow Road, Msasa provides customers with a wide range of lighting options to choose from, and they have extensive catalogues from leading suppliers for customers to browse through and select from the most up to date ranges. Part of their range has been specifically designed and custom manufactured exclusively for Jekesa. Jekesa are constantly in touch with their network of suppliers and have excellent systems in place for clearing imported products. But theyโ€™re not just a lighting supply showroom โ€“ Jekesa offers a full electrical installation service providing a detailed plan for the complete project, right from the design and construction stage.

Jekesa are comfortable collaborating with architects, engineers and interior designers to make your dream project come true. Whether itโ€™s a new home build, a renovation, an extension, or an industrial or commercial project, Jekesa are experienced and qualified to meet your needs. They can work with and advise clients from the initial planning stage of a new project right up to the final installation – including recommendations for the placing and designs for conduits and cabling, socket outlets, switches, technical specifications for MCB boards, lighting connection points, outside garden and security lighting and more.

Jekesa is a registered member of CIFOZ (Construction Industry Federation of Zimbabwe) and frequently consults and offers recommendations for ZERA (Zimbabwe Energy Regulatory Authority) โ€“ in particular in the area of the most efficient use of electrical energy and energy saving. In addition to the technical side Jekesa can also give advice for different styles of interior lighting designs โ€“ including ambient, task and accent lighting. And Jekesa is right up to date with modern lighting trends that include LED strip lights and panel lights, under-counter lights, concealed lights in bulkheads, floor lights for staircases and apps for remote controlled lighting for the future of smart homes. Jekesa is equally comfortable dealing with the electrical and lighting requirements for heavy industries, mining companies, or specialised applications for hospitals, schools and theatres.

Their staff, made up mostly of women in line with their gender equality outlook, includes sales staff, technicians and installation experts. Where their own staff are over stretched Jekesa has a directory of trusted and experienced sub-contractors to draw on โ€“ naturally working under Mrs Charumaโ€™s careful supervision. The design and supervision of the electrical side of new build projects naturally led to clients requesting Jekesaโ€™ s services for broader Project Management. As Jekesa already has a group of tried and trusted sub-contractors that they work with regularly it was a logical development for the company to move into Construction Project Management.

Mrs Charuma has both the training and the experience to ensure that clientโ€™s projects are completed on time, on budget and to the highest quality specifications. Recent projects include a church building in Chadcombe, a farmhouse in Mhangura and a double storey house in the upmarket area of Greystone Park โ€“ and there are other projects in development. Their Construction Project Management services ensure that clients get the best value for their investment and its ideal for people from the diaspora embarking on construction projects where they need a local โ€˜eye on the groundโ€™.

As the construction side of the business has grown, Jekesa has branched out into the supply of timber and steel for building projects. Construction grade timber is sourced directly from suppliers in the Eastern Highlands and brought in to Harare in bulk, in a variety of sizes, ensuring both consistent high quality and very competitive prices. They also stock both locally sourced and imported steel โ€“ mostly deformed bars in a variety of sizes for engineering and construction needs. Sizes of both timber and steel currently not in stock can be ordered as needed and Jekesa will facilitate the procurement at the best price in the quickest time.
