Balzer Trading, a Zimbabwean woodwork company established in 2013, has completed a striking new locker room installation at the Zimbabwe National Sports Stadium, showcasing the firm’s craftsmanship in solid teak timber.
Images shared by the company reveal a warmly lit, richly panelled changing room featuring a run of individual locker bays finished in deep, lustrous teak. Each bay is fitted with a brass coat hook and recessed downlighting, while cream leather-upholstered bench seating with built-in storage runs the length of the room. The centre island, also crafted from teak, anchors the space and echoes the wall panelling for a cohesive, tailored look. Rust-toned rubber flooring completes the design, offering both durability and a warm contrast to the timber finishes.
In a statement accompanying the reveal, Balzer Trading described the project as one of its proudest undertakings to date. “The lockers and centre island are made from teak, a beautiful, solid timber that’s built to last,” the company said, highlighting the material’s durability as central to the build’s appeal for a high-traffic sporting facility.
Teak has long been prized in furniture and interior woodwork for its natural oils, resistance to moisture and pests, and ability to age gracefully — qualities that make it particularly well suited to the demands of an elite sporting environment, where locker rooms see constant use by players, coaching staff and support personnel.
Beyond the material choice, the project carries symbolic weight for Balzer Trading. The company said it hoped the new space would serve as more than a functional upgrade, expressing pride in supporting the athletes who will use it. “We are proud to support our players, and hope this brings them luck, both on and off the field,” the statement read.
The Zimbabwe National Sports Stadium, the country’s largest sporting venue, has hosted major football fixtures, athletics events and concerts since opening in the early 1980s. Facility upgrades of this kind reflect a broader push by local businesses to align themselves with national sporting infrastructure, blending commercial craftsmanship with civic pride.
