ZIMTILE Adelaide Park manufacturing complex in Epworth, which has been operating for the past two years, says its output has exceeded expectations, raising hope it will continue to benefit from the ongoing construction boom.
The company’s operations and production manager, Mr Tichaona Mugano, said the performance demonstrated the efficacy of “advanced manufacturing solutions”.
The complex produces cement-based products such as bricks and decorative pavers.
Demand is mainly being driven by burgeoning activity in the construction sector.
“The facility’s meticulously calibrated output perfectly complements and facilitates the burgeoning private and public sector construction initiatives and the essential mass infrastructural development programmes currently underway,” said Zimtile’s business development and corporate relations manager Mr Tichaona Mugano.
The facility presently employs 200 workers, particularly from Epworth.
Zimtile is also working with the Epworth Local Board to upgrade Derbshire Road — an arterial link that supports activity in the area — as well as revitalise local educational infrastructure and spearhead critical public health and broader social awareness campaigns.
These initiatives encompass targeted health promotion drives focused on non-communicable diseases and rigorous, evidence-based anti-drug awareness programmes aimed at mitigating social decay and promoting community well-being.
Epworth Local Board town secretary Dr Wilton Mhanda commended Zimtile for assisting the community in various projects.
“Zimtile Adelaide Park plant has been assisting us with bricks and pavers to do most of our renovations and repairs,” he said.
“The donation was a milestone achievement for the Epworth Local Board as it covered many projects council was failing to complete. The development of Zimtile to become one of Zimbabwe’s largest cement products manufacturing plants … also empowers the locals with employment opportunities.”
Zimtile, a division of PG Industries, commissioned a modern concrete brick-manufacturing facility at its Adelaide Park factory in Epworth in June 2023.
The facility, which was worth close to US$1 million, has a daily production capacity of up to 500 000 concrete bricks.
It added to capacity at other production centres in Harare (Southerton branch), Bulawayo and Masvingo, which started in 1996, 1997 and 2014, respectively.
Further, the company’s concrete roof tiles daily production capacity stands at 100 000 units for the two production centres in Harare and Bulawayo.
