The much-awaited ZBCA 2017 Annual General Conference was successfully held in Masvingo at Great Zimbabwe Hotel. The Conference managed to draw more than 120 participants across the built environment. It was officially opened by Masvingo Resident Minister and Guest of Honour Dr P. Chimedza. Indeed, the Conference lived to its billing as the place where the real construction sector issues are deliberated. There was so much hype and spirited discussions of the sector issues and way forward. Boundless opportunities were unveiled from the different presentations. Just to name a few good examples were the presentations done by the Local Authorities and Ministry of Education. Suffice to say, a clear growth path emerged for the sector going forward.
It was refreshing to note the harmony that existed among the different players in the sector during the conference. Other presentations were from the Office of the President and Cabinet, RBZ, Agribank, ZIE and Ministry of Local Government, Public Works and National Housing; among others. Outside the more serious business of conferencing was the Golf Tournament, Excursions to Tokwe-Mkosi dam, a welcome dinner and an awards dinner sponsored by Willdale Bricks and PPC respectively. The Contractor of the Year Award was won by Max Haivo Electrical. The 2018 conference is expected to be even bigger and better. Dates and venue will be announced early in the year to attract as many participants as possible.
