WELSHMAN MABHENA COMPLEX SET TO BE DEVELOPMENT HUB FOR MATEBELELAND NORTH

A momentous milestone has been reached for the region as the Welshman Mabhena Complex in Lupane stands completed and ready to welcome its first occupants. This state-of-the-art complex will serve as the new headquarters for the provincial government, bringing essential services closer to the people of Matabeleland North.

The completion of the Welshman Mabhena Complex marks a significant departure from the previous arrangement, where most government offices were situated in Bulawayo’s Mhlahlandlela Government Complex. The distance between Lupane and Bulawayo presented numerous challenges for citizens seeking access to basic services, leading to inconvenience and delays. The relocation of government offices to Lupane aims to address these issues and improve service delivery.

Starting from September 1, 2024, provincial government services will begin operations from the Welshman Mabhena Complex. This move is expected to revitalize Lupane and transform it into a thriving hub of development for the region. The complex boasts modern facilities and ample office space, providing a conducive environment for government officials to carry out their duties effectively.

One of the key factors contributing to the delay in the relocation of government offices was the lack of adequate housing for civil servants. To address this issue, the government has allocated houses to government officials from various ministries, departments, and agencies. This ensures that civil servants have a comfortable and convenient place to live, enabling them to focus on their work and better serve the community.

The construction of the Welshman Mabhena Complex began in 2012, following the designation of Lupane as the provincial capital of Matabeleland North in 1999. This decision marked a significant step towards addressing the historical marginalization of the region and fostering its development.

In recent years, Matabeleland North has witnessed substantial growth and progress. The region has benefited from major infrastructure projects such as the Lake Gwayi-Shangani, the expansion of the Hwange Power Station, and various mining and power generation initiatives. These developments have contributed to the economic prosperity of the province.

In addition to the Welshman Mabhena Complex, Lupane is also undergoing other significant transformations. The Lupane Provincial Hospital, an e-passport office, and Lupane State University are all under construction or nearing completion. These projects will further enhance the region’s capacity to provide essential services and education to its residents.

With the completion of the Welshman Mabhena Complex and the ongoing development projects, Lupane is poised to become a vibrant and dynamic centre of government and economic activity in Matabeleland North. This milestone represents a significant step forward in the province’s journey towards progress and prosperity.
