VICTORIA FALLS GEARS UP FOR ZIMBABWE’S FIRST PUBLIC SKATEPARK

Construction of a landmark project set to redefine youth culture in Zimbabwe is nearing completion as Samkele Skate Park prepares for its official opening. Heralded as Zimbabwe’s first-ever public skatepark, the facility is more than just a sports venue; it’s a dedicated, inclusive community hub located in the heart of Victoria Falls.

The park, whose name “Samkele” fittingly means “welcome” in Ndebele, is the result of the grassroots #Siyakubeka initiative. This collaborative effort brings together the passion of local groups—the Victoria Falls Skate Club and Push Project—with vital international support from non-profit Wonders Around the World. The partnership underscores a massive step forward for creative spaces and youth empowerment in the region.

The grand opening is scheduled for November 1st, running from 12 PM to 4 PM. The community is invited to celebrate with free entry, live music, snacks, and an electrifying display by pro skaters flying in from 10 different countries.

Project leaders envision Samkele as a safe space designed to combat societal issues like youth drug abuse and unemployment by promoting teamwork, resilience, and creative expression. By offering a facility focused on the well-being of local residents, the park aims to shift the narrative of Victoria Falls from being solely a tourist destination to one that prioritizes its community first. The facility is expected to serve as a model for future youth-focused infrastructure across Zimbabwe.
