TINASHE MANZUNGU RE-ELECTED TO LEAD ZBCA INTO 2027

The Zimbabwe Building Contractors Association (ZBCA) has officially re-elected Tinashe Manzungu as President for the 2026-2027 term. The decision, reached during the association’s heavily attended National Annual General Meeting (AGM) held last Friday, marks a pivotal moment for the construction industry as it enters a period of unprecedented infrastructural development across the nation.

Dr. Manzungu expressed profound gratitude to the diverse membership of the ZBCA, acknowledging the gravity of the mandate bestowed upon the executive team. In a post-election statement, the President extended heartfelt thanks to the contractors, engineers, and industry stakeholders who participated in the democratic process, noting that the collective support from the AGM serves as a powerful catalyst for the ambitious agenda set for the upcoming biennium.

His re-election comes at a time when the Zimbabwean construction sector is undergoing a massive transformation, driven by both large-scale government projects and a surge in private-sector commercial developments.

The 2026-2027 presidency will focus on consolidating the gains made over the previous term, with a renewed emphasis on capacity building for local contractors and the promotion of sustainable building practices. As Zimbabwe strives toward its Vision 2030 goals, the ZBCA remains a critical partner in ensuring that infrastructure projects—ranging from highway dualization to high-rise residential complexes—are executed with international standards of craftsmanship and safety. The leadership has pledged to continue advocating for policies that prioritize local content, ensuring that indigenous firms are at the forefront of the nation’s “Built Environment” revolution.

Beyond advocacy, the new term is set to prioritize the integration of modern technology and green building materials within the local industry. Dr. Manzungu highlighted that the next two years will be defined by innovation and inclusivity, reaching out to small-to-medium-scale contractors in provinces outside the major metropolitan hubs to ensure that the industry’s growth is felt nationwide. By fostering a culture of mentorship and rigorous professional standards, the ZBCA aims to eliminate substandard workmanship and enhance the global competitiveness of Zimbabwean builders.

As the ZBCA family moves forward into this new administrative cycle, the sense of unity fostered during the National AGM remains its greatest asset. The industry stands ready to tackle the complexities of a modernizing economy, with a leadership team that is now firmly empowered to turn architectural visions into the concrete realities of a prosperous Zimbabwe. With the mandate secured, the work of building the nation continues with renewed vigour and a clear, collaborative roadmap for the future.
