Tassmak Design and Construct (Pvt) Ltd is a wholly Zimbabwean, family business owned and managed by Tasiyana Makuvatsine and his wife Memory Makuvatsine. The business was founded in 2000 so they have over 20 years of experience in all aspects of the construction trade in Zimbabwe. They also have a wealth of local knowledge of all aspects of the industry – including the best suppliers and top notch sub-contractors. Over the years Tassmak has established a team of sub-contractors that they know they can depend on to deliver work within budgets and time frames.
Tasiyana, or ‘Tasi’ as he’s better known, has a Diploma in Architecture as well as many years of experience working for architectural design firms and property developers. He started the business in 2000 from his home in Avondale West but it soon grew so big that he needed new, dedicated premises. The administrative arm of the business was moved to their current premises at 960 Glen Helen Way Helensvale.
From humble beginnings the company now has various divisions each managed by skilled and experienced class 1 artisans.

Tassmak’s services include feasibility studies before the project even begins. This determines whether the budget and time frames are realistic. Often clients have a limited amount of money available so Tassmak can come with up solutions to work on projects in stages as and when funds (and materials) become available. Although Tassmak can source materials from their trusted suppliers they are also happy to adapt to different schemes whereby the clients are able to source and supply materials themselves.
Their services also include Environmental Impact Assessments through EMA in order to ensure that the projects are compliant. They liaise with the relevant local authorities to ensure projects meet the existing by-laws and regulations and to get approval from Council for plans. They supervise and oversee on site works and ensure that sub-contractors are providing the best quality product within the parameters of the budget and the schedule. From the initial civil works to the end results Tassmak will be there all the way to ensure complete client satisfaction.
Tassmak are also keen to embrace the use of the latest building and engineering technological advances in line with global trends. They are excited to incorporate new and innovative building materials and structural solutions into their projects. Most of their projects either include solar power solutions from the outset or the provision to incorporate solar at a later stage of the development. Tasi notes that while solar can be expensive to install the full solar system can be done in stages with clients starting out with a small, simple set up and then adding panels and batteries as funds permit.
Tassmak is excited to explore other innovative options for residential projects, particularly for cluster home developments. Rain water harvesting, water recycling systems and bio-digesters are just a few of their areas of interest – although Tasi notes that Council by-laws are slow to adapt. There are innovative building techniques like 3D printing and concrete poured into shuttering framework which Tasi is keen to explore more.
One of Tassmak’s recent projects was some work for the dental centre constructed for Dr Chinhara at 103 The Chase in Mount Pleasant. Other projects completed by Tassmak include a number of upmarket residential developments, the music hall at Gateway Primary School, shopfitting and construction for restaurants like Ocean Basket and Mugg and Bean, other medical facilities and the development of flats and town house apartments in Marlborough.
