STANBIC BANK BUILDING NEW HEADQUARTERS IN BORROWDALE

Stanbic Bank is building its new headquarters in Borrowdale, Harare, according to a post on X by Mlandeli Ndhlela, a local blogger.

“The building is set to achieve the first Green Star Office Rating in Zimbabwe, implementing innovative approaches to waste management, water recycling, and energy consumption management,” he wrote.

The bank’s move is part of a trend where most of the large corporates have since relocated to the northern suburbs of Harare, citing the unsustainable conditions and squeezed parking space of the CBD.

The Green Star certification system is well-known around the world for its recognition of sustainable practices in Australia.

The Green Building Council of Australia (GBCA) has developed four Green Star rating tools that offer certification for building design and construction, operation, fit-outs, and communities.

These tools have been carefully crafted in collaboration with industry and government, and are constantly being improved and updated to meet the evolving needs of the sustainable building sector.

Since its establishment in 2003 by the Green Building Council of Australia (GBCA), Green Star has become a widely recognized rating system that sets the standards for sustainable and eco-friendly construction and design.

The council plays a crucial role in promoting the creation of buildings and spaces that prioritize the health and well-being of occupants while minimizing their environmental impact.

The Green Star Certification process involves a comprehensive evaluation conducted by the GBCA, ensuring that only buildings and community projects that meet the required standards can claim to be Green Star projects. The assessment is carried out in collaboration with industry and government stakeholders, ensuring the ongoing development and improvement of the certification.
