A powerful alliance of Zimbabwe’s leading property and legal regulatory bodies convened yesterday for a pivotal press conference, forcefully underscoring the theme: “Affordable Housing: A Right for Every Zimbabwean.” The initiative, driven by the Real Estate Institute, in close collaboration with the Estate Agents Council, the Valuers Council, and the Deeds Office, served as a unified declaration of commitment to tackling the national housing deficit.
A key Government representative, delivering the keynote address on behalf of the Ministry of Justice, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs, articulated the administration’s unwavering commitment to ensuring accessible housing for every citizen. The address strongly emphasized that realizing this national objective necessitates unity of purpose and the highest levels of professionalism across all sectors involved in the property value chain.
The representative stressed that affordable housing is a fundamental human right, not an exclusive privilege. The path forward, it was noted, requires collaborative efforts between the regulatory bodies and the government’s legal and parliamentary structures to streamline the housing delivery system.
The consortium is focusing on crucial areas such as eliminating speculative practices that inflate property costs, enhancing transparency in transactions, and accelerating the registration of deeds to provide security of tenure. The three professional councils pledged to intensify their enforcement of ethical conduct among their members, ensuring that agents, valuers, and administrators work collectively towards a common national goal.
This landmark convergence sets a new benchmark for cross-sector cooperation, aiming to foster an environment where policy translates quickly into tangible, affordable housing units. The coordinated effort is expected to deliver significant contributions towards the nation’s ambitious development goals, making homeownership a reachable reality for more Zimbabwean families.
