New Deadline Set for Road Construction Companies Working on New Parliament Building Roads

Vice President Dr Constantino Chiwenga recently inspected the ongoing construction of roads leading to the new Parliament Building in Mount Hampden. During his visit, he directed road construction companies to expedite their work and meet a new deadline of June, instead of the originally planned July deadline.

The revised deadline is necessary to ensure the completion of the roads before Zimbabwe hosts the SADC summit in August. VP Chiwenga emphasized the importance of high-quality construction and assured the companies that achieving the new deadline should not compromise the quality of their work.

The government has pledged to provide all the necessary resources to facilitate the timely completion of the project. Dr Chiwenga expressed his confidence that the revised deadline is achievable, although it will require the construction companies to work diligently. He also highlighted the government’s commitment to prioritizing local companies when awarding contracts for such projects.

While expediting construction is a priority, Vice President Chiwenga made it abundantly clear that achieving the new deadline must not come at the expense of quality. He urged construction companies to maintain high standards of workmanship throughout the project. The government, he assured, would provide all necessary resources to facilitate this objective. This includes logistical support, skilled personnel, and high-quality construction materials.

The project presents a significant opportunity for Zimbabwe’s construction industry. VP Chiwenga specifically emphasized the government’s policy of prioritizing local companies when awarding contracts for such projects. This policy aims to empower domestic construction firms and contribute to the nation’s economic growth. The expertise and experience of local companies, coupled with their familiarity with Zimbabwe’s specific requirements and conditions, position them well to deliver a project that meets international standards.

The design aspects of the road project are geared towards creating a modern, efficient, and aesthetically pleasing transportation network. The scope of works includes road construction, resurfacing, and widening. These improvements will significantly enhance the capacity and functionality of the roads, ensuring they can accommodate increased traffic flow. The use of high-quality materials and construction techniques will guarantee the roads’ durability and longevity.

The expedited construction of roads leading to the new Parliament Building represents a strategic undertaking with far-reaching implications. It is not only crucial for the successful hosting of the SADC summit but also serves as a testament to Zimbabwe’s commitment to infrastructure development and economic growth. By prioritizing quality, local expertise, and efficient design principles, this project has the potential to set a benchmark for future infrastructure initiatives in the country.
