NATIONAL SPORTS STADIUM UNDERGOES RENOVATIONS

The Sports & Recreation Commission (SRC) is making significant strides towards rehabilitating the National Sports Stadium to meet the minimum standards required by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) for online matches. In a recent update, SRC board chairman Gerald Mlotshwa and director-general Elta Nengomasha provided details on the ongoing renovations.

A crucial milestone has been achieved with the arrival of the first batch of 15,000 bucket seats purchased from China in Beira, Mozambique. These seats will be transported to Harare once the necessary paperwork is finalized. The SRC aims to complete all the work by December, but they recognize that the pitch itself will require substantial attention.

Beyond the seating and pitch improvements, the National Sports Stadium is undergoing other exciting transformations. A new perimeter fence is being installed to enhance security and control access. Additionally, the stadium will be equipped with modern turnstiles and CCTV equipment to ensure efficient crowd management and surveillance. To address potential power outages, generators have been acquired, and new floodlights will provide optimal lighting for both day and night matches.

These comprehensive renovations are show the SRC’s commitment to revitalizing the National Sports Stadium and elevating Zimbabwe’s sporting infrastructure to international standards. The stadium has to meet CAF’s online minimum standards, to be able to host prestigious continental competitions, attracting top-level athletes and generating significant economic benefits for the country.
