MINE SURVEYORS TO BENCHMARK BEST PRACTICES AT SHAMVA GOLD MINE

The Association of Mine Surveyors of Zimbabwe (AMSZ) and The Chamber of Mines of Zimbabwe are jointly hosting a “Benchmarking Technical Visit” to Shamva Gold Mine today, March 28, 2025. This initiative aims to provide mine surveyors and other mining professionals with a firsthand opportunity to observe and learn about best practices in the gold mining sector.

Benchmarking is a process where a company measures its performance against best-in-class organizations, using the insights gained to improve its own operations. In the context of mining, benchmarking can involve comparing various aspects such as operational efficiency, technological adoption, safety protocols, and production planning. When mining companies identify and adopt superior practices, they can enhance productivity, improve safety standards, and ultimately contribute to the growth and sustainability of the sector.

The visit to Shamva Gold Mine will offer attendees a comprehensive overview of the mine’s operations and facilities. Participants can expect to engage with experts and the technical and planning teams at Shamva Gold Mine, fostering discussions and knowledge sharing. Key areas of focus will include surveying techniques, safety protocols, and production planning and management. This practical, hands-on approach allows professionals to gain valuable insights that can be implemented in their own workplaces.

The Association of Mine Surveyors of Zimbabwe plays a crucial role in the mining industry by promoting professionalism and excellence in mine surveying practices. The association provides a platform for surveyors to network, share knowledge, and stay abreast of the latest technological advancements in the field. Similarly, The Chamber of Mines of Zimbabwe is an organization that represents the interests of mining companies in the country. It plays a pivotal role in advocating for policies that support the growth and development of the mining sector, which is a significant contributor to Zimbabwe’s economy.

This technical visit underscores the commitment of both organizations to fostering continuous improvement and innovation within the mining industry. The role of facilitating the sharing of knowledge and best practices, between the AMSZ and The Chamber of Mines helps to strengthen the capabilities of mining professionals and elevate the standards of mining operations across Zimbabwe.
