Meet Your Architects: Shaping Zimbabwe’s Architectural Landscape

Tinashe Honde is a partner and current Principal at Studio 5 Architects. He holds an M. Arch. from E.M.U in Cypress, BAS (Hons) Arch. from NUST, Zimbabwe and a Masters of Construction Project Management degree from the University College of Estate Management, in the UK. In addition, Tinashe is registered with the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB), an Associate Member of Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS), and is enrolled under the LEED Green Associate and LEED BD+C Exam Prep.
Introduced into the built environment by his uncle Martin Honde, he began his architectural journey as a technologist at Architrave Design Group, Harare, and later worked with Ayben Enterprises on renovation projects in the UK. Upon graduating, Tinashe worked in Rwanda, Cape Town, S.A., and North Cyprus Turkey, where he was a teaching assistant for final year.
Tinashe joined Manyara Design Architect in 2016. After registering with the Architects Council of Zimbabwe he joined Studio 5 Architects where he worked on projects such as Marondera University of Agricultural Science and Technology Main Administration building, House Honde, SDA Bluffhill Church, MSS Factory, Fossil Office renovations, and numerous high-end residential buildings.
Merits and Awards:
1st place Rwanda Development Project (RDB), Green Leisure Redevelopment Project Competition by GMK International Partners.
2nd Place IAZ (2022) Sustainable Design Award – Honde House.
Eastern Mediterranean University (E.M.U) – Famagusta, North Cyprus, Master of Architectural Studies (Postgraduate): Distinction/High Honor Award.
IAZ Prize (November 2014) for the best Design Thesis Studio Project.
HBN Simela Architects Prize (November 2014) for the overall best Student.
IAZ Prize (June 2010).
Areas of Interest:
Tinashe is passionate and dedicated to sustainable and adaptable architecture. In 2018, he joined NUST, lecturing the fifth (5th) year students in the environmental design module which aims to educate students on designing eco-friendly buildings. Outside of the drawing office, Tinashe enjoys spending time with his family, playing pool and volleyball.
