MATOBO RDC ACQUIRES ROAD EQUIPMENT USING DEVOLUTION FUNDS

MATOBO Rural District Council has purchased road construction equipment using devolution funds.

The local authority has acquired a motorised grader, a Tractor Loader Backhoe (TLB) and also installed 50 street lights. The development is aimed at strengthening service delivery and accelerating development within the district.

Matobo Rural District Council received ZWG$14 million. The local authority has also used part of the funds to purchase building materials for two clinics currently under construction in the district. The council is also in the process of procuring two service delivery vehicles.

Speaking during a ceremony to commission the equipment on Wednesday, Minister of State for Matabeleland South Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Albert Nguluvhe, described the development as a significant milestone in the district’s development trajectory. He reiterated Government’s commitment to inclusive development under the leadership of His Excellency, President Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa, who has emphasised the principle of “leaving no one and no place behind.”

With social amenities and infrastructure development being among the key pillars of the National Development Strategy 1 (NDS1), local authorities have utilised devolution funds to complement efforts by communities and other stakeholders, ensuring that projects are completed on time.

Devolution funds are assisting local authorities to fulfil their mandate across the country through the development of key infrastructure such as clinics, classroom blocks, roads and bridges, among other facilities.

The funds have transformed several districts in the Matabeleland region as the Second Republic continues to advance its inclusive development agenda of leaving no one and no place behind. The devolution programme is one of the key pillars under the National Development Strategy 2 (NDS2), whose overarching goal is to achieve high, accelerated, inclusive and sustainable economic growth, as well as socio-economic transformation, as the country moves towards an upper middle-income society by 2030.
