GOVT PLEDGES STRONGER SUPPORT FOR ZIMBABWE’S CONSTRUCTION INDUSTRY

THE government remains committed to creating an enabling environment for the construction industry through policy review, easing procurement processes, and ensuring fair access to opportunities.

Officially opening the Construction Industry Federation of Zimbabwe’s annual congress in Masvingo this Thursday, Vice President, General Retired Dr Constantino Chiwenga said the construction industry plays a key role in ensuring the government realises its set goals and targets.

“Government remains committed to creating an enabling environment. We recognise the challenges you face, from limited access to finance and equipment to cumbersome procurement processes. The government is reviewing Policies, easing procurement processes, unlocking affordable lines of credit, and ensuring that even our Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises in construction have fair access to opportunities. Recently, I had the privilege of breaking ground at the new Procurement Regulatory Authority of Zimbabwe head office, which symbolises our commitment to enhancing public procurement and governance,” he said.

Vice President Chiwenga also spoke on the need to deliver infrastructure that is efficient, inclusive and sustainable.

“We understand that together, we have a shared responsibility to deliver infrastructure that is efficient, inclusive, innovative, and sustainable. However, let me emphasise that this partnership must be grounded on ethics, transparency, and purposeful leadership. We cannot and will not tolerate corruption, tender manipulation, or unethical dealings that undermine confidence and compromise delivery. Let this Congress mark a collective pledge: that the Zimbabwean construction industry shall be built on the pillars of honesty, hard work, and professionalism,” he said.

The Construction Industry Federation of Zimbabwe (CIFOZ) appreciated the support from the government through considering local contractors for flagship projects.

“As the construction industry, we want to appreciate the support that we are getting from the government, and we are ready to serve. We thank you for capacitating us and trusting the local industry,” former president of the Construction Industry Federation of Zimbabwe, Engineer Ephraim Gwindingwi said.

“The government continues to provide opportunities for the construction industry, and our thrust is focused on building our country,” president of the Construction Industry Federation of Zimbabwe, Ms Elina Shoko said.

Masvingo Provincial Affairs and Devolution Minister, Honourable Ezra Chadzamira, also praised the construction industry’s contribution towards uplifting communities under the National Development Strategy One (NDS1).

“Your presence here in Masvingo underscores your unwavering commitment to our collective journey towards the attainment of a prosperous, empowered, and modern society. The implementation of the National Development Strategy One (NDS1) has already demonstrated what can be achieved when Government and industry work hand-in-hand,” he said.

Earlier on, Vice President Chiwenga toured exhibitions by stakeholders in the construction Industry.

The congress is running under the theme, “Building Smarter: Advancing Innovation and Efficiency for a Sustainable Future.”
