CONSTRUCTION UNDERWAY FOR ZIMBABWE’S FIRST ROTATING RESTAURANT

The architectural landscape of Zimbabwe’s capital is set for a dramatic transformation as construction officially begins on the country’s first 360° rotating restaurant. The landmark project is a key feature of the sprawling Liberation City development, taking its place atop the four-story structure of the Museum of African Liberation in Harare.

The Institute of African Knowledge (INSTAK), the Pan-African think tank behind the Liberation City Project, confirmed the commencement of work, announcing that the installation of structural columns for the rotating facility is now underway on the fourth floor of the museum. This cylindrical addition is conceptually designed to mimic a traditional African clay pot, blending modern engineering with an ode to cultural heritage.

Set to become the highest dining facility in Zimbabwe by altitude, the restaurant is touted as a game-changer for the nation’s hospitality sector. Diners will enjoy an unparalleled, unbroken panoramic perspective of Harare, slowly revolving to take in the city’s sights and the surrounding vistas. This unique feature will establish the venue as a premier attraction for both international tourists and local citizens seeking a novel experience.

INSTAK has confirmed that the construction of the steel and concrete superstructure is progressing well and is on track to meet the targeted completion date of April 2026.

The rapid pace of construction is closely tied to Zimbabwe’s ambitions on the continental stage. The completion of the restaurant, alongside other Liberation City facilities, is intended to be well ahead of the country’s bid to host the African Union (AU) Mid-Year Coordination Summit in July 2027. This timeline reflects a strategic effort to showcase the nation’s modernized infrastructure and cultural commitment to the visiting African heads of state and delegates.

The Museum of African Liberation, and the broader Liberation City—which also includes a Liberation Mall, five-star hotel, and an African-themed amusement park—is positioned as a lasting tribute to the continent’s history and a major step in fulfilling President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s vision for Zimbabwe’s development. This rotating restaurant promises to be a powerful, elevated symbol of a forward-looking nation.
