Beitbridge border post modernisation; first Phase set for completion in two weeks

The first phase of the 300 000 000 United States Dollar Beitbridge border post modernisation project will be complete in the next two weeks.

The development will see the opening up of some parts of the border post to commercial vehicles and the public.

The Beitbridge border post modernisation project, which is being carried out under the Build Operate and Transfer (BOT) agreement is almost complete on the first phase.

The project has been split into three phases and the Minister of Transport and Infrastructural Development, Honourable Felix Mhona said in two weeks, the first phase will be opened to traffic.

The advent of Second Republic, we have heard the concerns of the masses and we are acting. We are glad that and the first phase will be complete in the next two to three weeks. It will be opened to the public. Now they are working on final touches. The success of these projects are attributed to the wise counsel of His Excellency President Emmerson Mnangagwa whom we have invited in the next few days to see these projects and progress so far, he said.

The infrastructure development project in Beitbridge has seen the rolling out of housing and a reservoir for the provision of water to the border town.

We have a wonderful project at Beitbridge that is the upgrading of the border post. We are rehabilitating the freight and commercial section, we have the buses and passenger’s section. We have a consortium called Zim Borders which is working on the border post and they are entirely rehabilitating the entire bridge, they are providing accommodation for the workers and not only that but a reservoir which will be a panacea to the water challenges in Beitbridge, he added.
