Aspindale Park Reaches New Heights – First block at Aspire Heights Completed

Development of the Aspindale Park housing estate began in 2017 with
the establishment of over 1,200 fully serviced residential stands set out on a
56 hectare site, conveniently situated at the corner of Kambuzuma Road and High Glen Road. The masterplan was to create a unique community-living experience where residents could enjoy a safe and secure environment
with fully serviced roads, street lighting, water, electricity and sewer connections as well as high speed internet service. The development plan includes easy access to a shopping mall with a Pick n Pay supermarket
and other retail outlets (including a pharmacy and a hardware store) and the Aspindale Farmers’ Market. There are also schools, day care centres, churches, clinics and other facilities. The project is part of a broader town
planning scheme which aims to decongest the City Centre and create smaller independent neighbourhoods which are more attractive and offer friendlier lifestyle choices. It’s also in line with the government’s drive for Smart City
status by 2025.

The uptake for the first phase of the residential stands has been phenomenal with all 1,200 stands having been sold out within 18 months and 90% of the stands now having residential structures built on them. The developers
have planted loads of trees to ‘green’ the area and make it an extremely attractive (and aspirational) suburb. Within Aspindale Park there are safe open spaces for kids to play as well as communal picnic tables and braai
areas for family entertainment.

The latest phase – which was always part of the masterplan – is the construction of 12 four storey apartment blocks called Aspire Heights set
within a secure perimeter with a gated entrance. There’s 24 hour security plus the main gate offers a concierge service.

There’s secure parking for residents’ vehicles as well as visitor parking. The apartment blocks have safe drying 152 individual units in total, creating a unique community feel. Aspindale Park’s tag line has always been “A community like no other” and yards for laundry and there’s even a private
refuse collection service. Each block contains between 12 to 16 apartments so there arethey’re certainly living up to their reputation.

The whole development is exceptional within Harare both in scale and in the facilities and convenience offered. The flats have two bedrooms (both with built in wardrobes), a well-appointed bathroom and an open plan kitchen and lounge area. They have big windows so there’s loads of natural light and the ground floor units have doors opening to a small outside space. The upper floors will have small Juliet balconies for a connection to the outdoors. Although the units are fairly compact the interior spaces flow well and function with maximum efficiency. The apartments are either 45 or 48 square metres with tiled floors throughout for easy maintenance.

The interior design for the show flat (done in-house by the developers) is modern and clean and shows off the potential of the property to good effect.
The kitchen has ample storage space, both gas and electric cooking facilities,
an extractor fan and a two-in-one washer and dryer so it’s move in ready. Each apartment is connected to the central gas supply to provide hot water and cooking facilities, even when there’s no electricity, so residents can always have a hot shower and a cooked meal. Piped gas has long
been used in First World countries as it’s affordable, efficient, convenient and safe.

Having a single central gas supply means residents don’t have to carry gas canisters up and down the stairs and, of course, you never run out unexpectedly. Water supply is guaranteed – it’s a hybrid system so that
when Council provides water the water line will be fed and when there’s no supply from Council there’s a backup system connected to the borehole. The units have individual metres for gas, ZESA and water all of which are connected to an easy-to-operate app making monitoring and payment quick and easy. There’s even provision for residents to install their own electrical backup system of inverters and batteries. In addition to high-speed fibre internet DStv is all set up and ready to ‘plug and play’.

The apartments are ideal as a starter home for young couples or small families. For executives who travel a lot the ‘lock up and go’ convenience is very appealing and the second bedroom would make a great home office. They’re also perfect for retired couples looking to downsize and wanting the
security and stability of community life with neighbours close by. At the official launch of Aspire Heights, in a speech read on his behalf, the Minister of
State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution in Harare Metropolitan province, Senator Oliver Chidawu praised the project noting, “The proposed development will follow the Zimbabwe Human Settlement Policy on
densification which recommends that at least 40 percent of land for housing development should be reserved for the construction of flats. I wish to commend the developers for adopting this strategy which is in sync with
our national policy so Henkik Investments will definitely complement the Government’s efforts to decrease the housing backlog.”

Work on Aspire Heights began in October 2020 and although progress was slowed by the lockdown the first block was completed in May this year. Progress on the remaining blocks is expected to be much faster and
it’s anticipated that all the blocks will be completed in the next 18 months.

But the developers will not simply sell off the apartments and then withdraw – they plan to maintain their presence and their interest in the project as part of the body corporate and in terms of maintenance and upkeep, and future
developments and improvements.
